There are many kinds of divination. I will focus only on what I know since there are many websites out there that can help you with what you want to learn more about. Personally, I like the tarot, pendulum, astrology, and numerology.

I have been studying the Tarot for a while and will give you my thoughts on the cards.

There actually is no right or wrong way to read the tarot. I know, this sounds impossible, but it is all in how YOU interpret it. People do not react the same way to things as the next person might. For example, I might associate a kitten as cute, cuddly, and playful(positive); whereas you might associate a kitten with destroyed curtains, scratched skin, and rambunctiousness(negative). So, how you view the card (in your own experiences with life) you will get a reading that is accurate for YOU. I hope that made sense...LOL! So do not give up, give yourself time to get familiar with the cards and your reaction to each one. Keeping a journal or something to write down your impressions of each card is very helpful. Just because the little booklet that comes with your new deck has meanings for each card, this is just a basis to get started with. As you learn and become familiar with them, you may have totally different meanings. This is ok! Your little booklet is not a necessity and in fact, before you look at it, you should go through the deck and write down YOUR ideas.

Since there is lots of info on tarot, I will be making a page for both the Major Arcana and Minor Arcana, and breaking down the Minor Arcana into each suit. To learn more about the tarot, go to my tarot page.

Go to the Symbols page for information on the Futhark Runes.

Go to the astrology page.

Pendulum

Here are some guidelines for beginning pendulum dowsing:

Some people feel that dowsing is only connecting you to your "highest mind" and there is no need for protection. Others feel that you are connecting with other energy forms/beings and some of them may be nice and only concerned for your well-being, while others have no concern for you at all and will cause mischief and trouble if allowed to do so. Yes, it is believed by some that even something as simple as dowsing can open up the doorway to other dimensions and undesirable energies can come through.
With that said, some people feel that "grounding" is unnecessary, but I feel it is always useful. Letting go of unneeded energy, nervousness, and anxiety, as well as connecting to the Earth, will help focus your mind on the task at hand. So, you may first ground and protect yourself. Sprinkle sea salt around the area, and smudge if you like. State that you will only connect with love and light; any malevolent beings/entities are not welcome and must leave. (Unless of course, you have no fear of connecting with anything other than your own higher self, then proceed at your own risk without grounding and protecting.)

When you use a pendulum, it is important to get in balance with it before you start asking it questions. First, make sure to cleanse whatever you choose as a pendulum and dedicate it for use. This can be anything from a fancy store bought one-of-a-kind pendulum to a necklace with a pointed stone hanging from it to a needle and thread. It should neither be too light nor too heavy, something with a comfortable weight to it. Also, you may find that one pendulum may work better for you than other (such as the needle and thread works better than the fancy one, etc.) Take the time to try them out and use what works best for you.

Now, hold the chain of the pendulum about 4-6 inches up the chain, between your thumb and forefinger. Wrap any excess chain around other fingers. Make sure the pendulum chain is hanging straight down, not draped over your thumb or finger, and let your wrist go loose. You can either prop your elbow on the table or just hold your arm straight out in front of you. I prefer to dowse over my palm or over charts, but it isn't necessary.

Next, check the directional swing for yes, no, and maybe/need more info. You do this by saying, “Show me Yes” and observing which direction the pendulum swings. Do this for “no” and “maybe/need more info” as well. Mine usually swings deosil (clockwise) for yes, and back-and-forth for no, although sometimes it will show widdershins (counter-clockwise) for no. It is only necessary to ask before the first question of a session, not for every question. Pendulums can react differently, and even if last time it went one way, this session it might go the other. Always ask it to show you before starting.

It works with yes or no questions, but if you start getting frustrated (you don't like the answers) and try to manipulate it for the answers you want, then it may just stop working for a while (not move or just go in circles). If this happens then just put it away for another time.
You can also use pendulums similar to how you use an Ouija board, by using a chart with the alphabet spelled out, plus relevent words such as yes and no. This is a very effective tool for divination since it will point to the letters (or numbers or words) to answer your question.

Now it is time to ask your question as clearly as possible. If you ask an ambiguous question, your pendulum may give a “maybe” swing or stop moving. If you're not sure, try re-phrasing the question to cross-check.

And last, do not be too dependent on the answers. Sometimes there is interference and answers are unclear. Also, wishing for a certain answer is not helping you at all. Relax, and consider the information you have received. Use your common sense and remember to just have fun!

Candle Divination

There are several different ways to divine with candles. I offer a few ways that may be useful for you:

(Remember to place candles in an area with no breezes or drafts. Never leave candles unattended!)

Single Candle Divination:

Light a candle. Keep it lit for at least 3 hours. Ask a yes or no question. Now sit quietly and watch the candle.
If the right side burns faster that the left, the answer is yes, if the reverse, the answer is no.
When burning a candle to determine future influences, the right signifies good fortune. However, if the left side burns more quickly than the right, it signifies things may take a turn for the worse.

Three Candle Divination:

Arrange three candles into a triangle (preferably all of the same color and in identical holders) then light them. If one burns more brightly than the others, you'll have a period of unexpected good luck. If a wick will not stay lit, it signifies a period of negativity. If the flames move in circles, there may be conflicts. If all of the candles burn steadily with no disturbances, then there will be no changes in the situation; things will remain the same.

Divining Candle Shapes:

Definite patterns and shapes in the smoke, flame and/or melted wax is another way of candle divining. There are no set definitions for these; your subconscious will guide you in interpreting them.
Pay attention to the flame, its shape and write down what it looks like to you. (Keep this information as it may mean nothing at first, but later take on a new meaning and importance.)
Next, observe the shape of the melted wax. Again, write down your observations.
The shadows that the candle flame makes against a wall or other surface can also be used in your session. Remember to write down your impressions and thoughts during the session.
