General Overview:

The cards with the suits (similar to a deck of playing cards) are called the minor arcana. Sometimes called the pip cards, these have different suit names. Since I like the Robin Wood deck, I will explain what these are: Pentacles, Swords, Cups, Wands. If you are using regular playing cards, then this is what you would associate with each: Diamonds (Pentacles), Spades (Swords), Hearts (Cups), and Clubs (Wands).
I will give a brief overview of what each means, then give more in depth look at each card further on its own page.
The Aces of each cards represents the energy of that suit and new beginnings (growth and development). It reveals the area of your life (indicated by the suit) has a strong influence on all the other factors in the reading.

The Numbers:
The 2's (II) represent agreement or partnership and things are now coming together or end.
The 3's (III) indicate things will move to the next lever.
The 4's (IV) show there is slow growth, putting down roots, plans not yet stabilized.
The 5's (V) mean loss or struggles, but the future has a way of taking care of itself.
The 6's (VI) represent things can start going forward if you make needed changes and let go.
The 7's (VII) indicate a need for caution, move forward slowly until things can settle down.
The 8's (VIII) show things are now improving, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
The 9"s (IX) represent satisfaction and improvement. You can enjoy the good life, but don't get too carried away.
The 10's (X) mean abundance and achievement, things are good.

Court Cards: The Court Cards (Page, Knight, Queen, King) can represent people who can offer you advice.
The Pages indicate innocence, learning (like a young child).
The Knights represent ideals and transition (like a teenager).
The Queens show wisdom and nurturing (an adult woman).
The Kings mean authority and structure (an adult man).

Suits:
The suit of Pentacles symbolizes the EARTH element- the energy that keeps us "grounded", and the material or physical side of things (money, goods, services, work, status). These cards tell us about our health and strength and shows us what our attitude is concerning all these things. The colors associated with this are browns and greens.

The suit of Swords symbolizes the AIR element- the mental or thought process, and the things we need to take very seriously (trouble, courage, authority, health). They represent how we gain insight into life and our ability to create balance and restore harmony to life. The colors associated with this are yellow and white.

The suit of Cups represent the element of WATER- the emotional aspect, matters of the heart, inner feelings and how we express them. This means Cups are about relationships (love, friends, partnerships) as well as artistic abilities. They help us to understand our current emotional state. The colors associated with this are blues and light greens.

The suit of Wands represent the element of FIRE- action, passion, determination, inspiration, negotiations, travel. All aspects of life are covered (business, personal, family), and Wands can advise us about them all. They reveal our energy and how we accomplish goals. The colors associated with this are reds and oranges.
